At River of Life we have begun a new sermon series called, ‘Better Together’,
looking at different ways God would have us be wholesome contributors and givers
to LIFE. We’re not meant to run this race alone!
Would you agree that we give best, when we know and understand what we have
been given?... for example:
1 John 4:19 says, “We love, because He first loved us”.
Ephesians 4:32 says, “forgive each other, just as in Christ God forgave you”.
1 Corinthians 12:7 says, “The manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all”.
Matthew 10:8 says, “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.”
Did you know Jesus’ wounds healed you? 1 Peter 2:24, and Isaiah 53: 5 both say
that by his wounds we are/ have been healed. Jesus gave us something. His
punishment gave us peace. His wounds gave us healing. When we recognise what it
is that He gave us, then we can best give it. We value healing, and love to see
healing in people’s lives at River, because we recognise it’s what we have been
given.
I heard a story a few years ago of a young lady who had recently given her life to the
Lord. She was a paraplegic. She was enthusiastic in her new life in Christ and didn’t
have much to teach her except what she read from the Bible. She was reading the
book of 1 Peter, chapter 1 and chapter 2 in her bedroom, with her mum and
boyfriend in the kitchen. She got to verse 24 of chapter 2 where it says, ‘by his
wounds you have been healed”, and she started yelling out, “I’ve been healed!! I’ve
been healed!! This part of the Bible says Jesus has healed me! He’s forgiven me my
sins and now he has healed me!” With that, she promptly got out of bed and was
completely healed from her paraplegia!!
There’s also a story in the Bible of where Jesus healed the paralytic. Have a read in
Mark 2:1 – 12. He said, “Son, your sins are forgiven… So that you (talking to those
present who queried him) may know that the Son of God has authority on earth to
forgive sins, get up take your mat and go home”…and the paralysed man was
miraculously healed, right there and then, in front of them all!
Jesus’ wounds have healed you. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour,
you are forgiven, and you are healed. Take Him at His Word, just like that paraplegic
lady did… receive His healing today.
