1 Corinthians 14:1, 3 says, “Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially
that you may prophesy… 3 But he who prophesies speaks edification
and exhortation and comfort to men."
At River of Life one of our cultural values is prophetic encouragement with one
another and those in our sphere of influence. It is a great tool to bring people closer
to the Lord, as well as a way to introduce people to our amazing God, who loves
them.
About 10 years ago when I started on a journey to understand the prophetic better, I
committed to speaking an encouraging word to 3 people in my life each day. It was a
great way to cement the desire in me to want to prophesy.
Early on, somebody pointed out to me that there were schools of prophets (known as
‘sons of prophets’) and prophetic groups in the Old Testament, and that just made a
whole lot of sense to me that God would provide teaching and training in this area!
Check out 1 Samuel 10:1 – 13 for first mention in the Bible, as well as 1 Samuel
19:19 – 20. Regarding reference to prophet trainees, see 2 Kings 6:1 – 7.
Would you agree that having biblically sound, safe, training in the prophetic is helpful
in maintaining a healthy, loving, prophetic culture?
